About
The Poddle River History Project is a community-driven initiative led by volunteers from the Crumlin Community Cleanup and the Crumlin & Walkinstown History Group. The project aims to increase awareness of the Poddle River and the City Watercourse, highlighting their rich historical significance.
Over 500 volunteer hours have been dedicated to researching, transcribing, categorising, and compiling newspaper articles, photos, stories, videos, reports, and documents related to the Poddle River. As of the project’s launch, the website features 67 points of interest and 235 newspaper articles.
This project is an ongoing effort, and we welcome any additional photos, content, or corrections. If you have materials to contribute, please email us at crumlinwalkinstownhistory@gmail.com. We will do our best to incorporate them into the website.
All copyrights are held by their respective owners, and we have made every effort to include appropriate copyright and credit notes for all assets used.
A special thank you to all the volunteers, Aidan, Bernadette, Brendan, Carol, Kevin, Margaret, Mary, Michele, Sally-Anne and Trevor for all their work on the project. We also extend our gratitude to the authors, writers, and “Poddleologists” who have documented the river’s history and continue to care for it.
We are also grateful to the Local Authority Waters Programme for providing financial support for part of this project.
The website was launched on October 2024 during the Dublin Festival of History 2024 in Walkinstown library along with a talk from Cathy Scuffil.
